La Meridiana
La Meridiana is not a fancy winery, from outside it looks like a normal house, but as you get closer, you will notice the collection of old agricultural tools, the old farming images framed on the wall, an unusual vase with a 100 years old Groppello vine. As you enter the gate, at least 2 family members will welcome you, since all the family lives in the building.
Today the two cousins, Roberto and Fabio with Fabio’s wife, Katia are formally in charge, but both their parents are still there to help and check that everything is done properly. They all live above the cellar and that is why visiting La Meridiana feels like visiting your grandparents’ home. Since the 1900’s they have grown olive trees and vines, their extra virgin olive oils is always a special treat.
Their 20 hectares are located in different areas, 16 hectares are close by the cellar, on the north-west side of Lake Garda, the other 4 are on the South side of the lake, in Desenzano del Garda. They farm organic and since 2021 all the wines are certified, a choice not so easy because of the lake’s humidity. They are one of the only 8 organic producers of Lugana. Total bottled production is 3,500 cases.
